What is your Tiered Pricing?

Tiered Pricing

Tiered Pricing

What happens to my order history from the old Hawthorne website?

All orders placed on our old site are included in your total yardage history. What's more, my tenacious husband Charlie ties your yardage order history to any order placed with the email address attached to your account, whether you are an account holder and checked out as a guest on occasion, or even if you just created an account.

What if I have an account but checked out as a guest on occasion?

Even if you checked out as a guest your order total will be added to your total order history and applied toward your loyalty discount because we associate your total order history to the email address attached to your account.

What happens to the orders I placed in the last year when you didn't have Tiered Pricing?

We associate your yardage order history to the email addressed attached to your account, so any orders placed while Tiered Pricing was suspended will be included and applied toward your qualifying loyalty discount.

What if I've ordered before but have never created an account?

If you create a new account using the same email address you have used for ordering in the past, your order history will be included in your order history and applied to your qualifying loyalty discount.

What about fabric on sale?

Tiered Pricing does not apply to sale fabrics.

However orders of sale fabric do get added to your total order history and accounted for in your loyalty discount.

A few caveats:

- To receive your customer loyalty discount, you have to be logged into your account to see those discounts.
- If you feel like your total is off, please try logging out and back in to your account and return to your order history page to view your total yards ordered.
- If you have any questions, please reach out via email. We appreciate your support and are happy to help!

questions about ordering

What size cuts do you offer?

In addition to Pre-Cut Bundles in Kits, customers can purchase yardage in increments of 1/8 yard, beginning at cuts that are a minimum of 1/2 yard.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Customers are welcome to pay with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, or Paypal.

Do you offer swatches?

We do, but only for all of our In House collections that are digitally printed at the shop. We understand that ordering fabric online can be tricky and are therefore happy to help with color matching and advice. Please feel free to email us with your questions!

Will my fabric arrive in continuous lengths?

If for any reason our inventory for a certain print is spread across one or more pieces, we will always contact the customer prior to shipping. The only exception to this is if a customer orders more than 15 yards of a single design. Fabric is typically rolled onto bolts in 15 yard lengths so that will be the maximum continuous length we can offer. Please contact us if you require specific cuts for long yardages and we will do our best to accommodate you!

Once placed, can I modify or cancel my order?

We make every effort to ship orders quickly; once submitted, orders immediately enter our processing queues. Should you need to modify your order, please email us as soon as possible and we will try to accommodate your request. We are unable to modify or cancel an order after it has been cut or printed.

How will I know when my order has been received?

Upon placing an order with us you will receive confirmation email with your invoice. You will receive a subsequent email when your order has been shipped via our shipping provider, USPS.

Do you offer gift certificates?

We are working to add the availability to purchase a gift certificate to our new site. If you have a gift certificate you would like to use, please contact us.

questions about shipping & returns

What are your shipping rates and delivery times?

Whether you're a manufacturer or a home sewer (or both as the case may be!) we pride ourselves on our fast shipping, so you are sure to receive your order as soon as possible. We make every effort to ship orders the same day they are placed.

Domestic orders ship for a flat rate $5.95 or less.

International shipping rates are based on weight, and a quote is available within the shopping cart. The customer is responsible for any VAT, customs duties, or other import fees charged once the package arrives in the destination country.

Do you offer shipping insurance?

Shipping insurance is available for an additional fee. Please ask for this charge to be send once your order is placed. Domestic shipping insurance is $2.50. International shipping insurance is $5. If an insured package is declared lost by USPS the customer will be refunded in full.

What are your regular shipping days?

We ship Monday through Friday, per the USPS Postal Holiday Schedule.

How will I know when my order has been shipped?

You will receive a subsequent email when your order has been shipped via the provider chosen at checkout.

Do you offer express shipping?

Yes, we do offer an express shipping option for domestic and international orders where tracking and delivery confirmation is included.

Can you hold off shipping my order until other fabrics become available?

While we understand the logistics of trying to minimize the number of orders placed by maximizing each shipment, regretfully we can’t offer to hold orders as we’d quickly have piles of fabric everywhere! We have neither the space nor the manpower to accommodate this request I’m afraid. We do offer the capability for customers to enter their email address to be notified of the future availability of any out of stock item.

Do you accept returns?

We take great care to offer high quality products and tools for your creative life and strive to provide an excellent shopping experience where you are left feeling happy and inspired to create. If for any reason you are not thrilled with your purchase you are welcome to contact us for a return authorization for the fabric, ribbon, pre-cut, or thread and we will send a refund for the cost of the item less a 20% restocking fee upon its return, provided it's received within 30 days of purchase. We ask that the item be regularly priced, uncut and unwashed, and a minimum of 1 yard. Thread and precuts must be in original packaging. Since we print to order we do not offer returns on our In House Hawthorne printed fabric collections. All sales on sewing patterns are final. Since we print to order we do not offer returns on our In House Hawthorne printed fabric collections. We do offer sample strips for most of our Hawthorne printed collections. For example, if you take a peek at the Briar Rose collection and scroll to the bottom of the page, you'll see Briar Rose Sample Strip, which you can purchase in the fabric type(s) of your choice.

Please send returns to:

Hawthorne Supply Co.
54 Elizabeth St., Suite 34
Red Hook, NY 12571

The restocking fee is necessary to cover the cost of the return: processing your order, shipping your order, receiving and processing your return, adding return to inventory.

questions about our digitally printed fabrics

What is digitally printed fabric?

Instead of employing traditional screen printing methods, we print our designs digitally. Using water based pigment dyes, our designs are printed directly onto the fabric. Pigment dyed simply means that the printer lays ink down on the surface of the fabric, much like the conventional inkjet printers you find in the home or office - just supersized! The benefit is that we can achieve a very high level of detail in our designs.

Where is the fabric printed?

All printing and design is done in our shop in a small town in Upstate New York State (USA).

Are digitally printed fabrics safe for use and safe for the environment?

Absolutely. Digital printing offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional rotary screen printing, with chief advantages in water and power consumption as well as the elimination of harmful chemicals. Instead of requiring hundreds of gallons of water to yield a single yard of screen printed fabric, our digital printing process is virtually water free. That advantage is two-fold; not only does digital printing avoid consumption of a limited resource, it also eliminates the need to dispose of toxic wastewater. According to the World Bank, the treatment and dyeing of textiles accounts for nearly 20% of industrial water pollution globally, second only to agriculture. Furthermore, you'll be happy to know that we lessen our environmental footprint even more by printing with non-toxic, water based pigment inks that are biodegradable. Finally, the power consumption of digital printers is also a fraction of their screen printer counterparts, making this process an exciting step in moving towards sustainable practices in the textile industry. We are thrilled to take this process yet another step closer with the option to select our In House digitally printed fabrics on a 100% GOTS certified Organic Cotton. So not only is the process an eco-friendly option, so too can be the base cloth.

Why does the printed fabric initially feel a little stiff upon receipt?

Compared to traditional rotary screen printed fabrics, our house printed fabrics do arrive a little stiff, particularly when a design has high ink coverage with dark colors. Digitally printed fabrics go through a roll to roll heat press to heat set the ink and, unlike traditional screen printed fabrics with chemically reactive inks, our fabrics are printed with eco-friendly water based pigment inks that don't require washing in the post printing process. However, if you pre-wash at home, you'll find that digitally printed fabric softens much like standard rotary printed fabric. And you can feel good about supporting a printing process that's widely considered to be the most environmentally sustainable in the textile industry. What's more, you're buying American made!

Should I pre-wash?

For most projects, pre-washing our fabric before use is a personal choice. There isn't anything inherently different about the digital printing process that requires washing before use. If you are making apparel or wearable accessories, we do highly recommend pre-washing your digitally printed fabric to ensure a proper fit after your project is sewn.

How should I wash my digitally printed fabrics?

Our digitally printed fabric holds up very well under ideal washing conditions. We do everything on our end possible to ensure the fabric will meet both our own high expectations and those of our customers. Please follow these simple care instructions:

   -Machine wash cold, gentle cycle
-Wash with like colors using phosphate free detergent
   -Do not bleach
-Choose a larger load size to prevent creasing
-Tumble dry low, remove promptly or line dry
   -Warm Iron

What size needle and thread should be used?

A standard size needle of 10 or 12 can be used on our Quilting Cotton and Medium Weight Sateen. Due to the high thread count of our Poplin, we strongly suggest choosing a finer needle size 10 or 11. For our Canvas, a needle size of 14 or 16 is recommended. A needle size of 9 will work best for our Rayon. For our Knits, you should use a size 10 or 12 needle with a Ball Point. For more information about needle sizes, we recommend this handy guide. As for thread, we like piecing with a 40 or 50 wt, though any thread weight may be successfully used. We have enjoyed using our printed fabric for a variety of projects: from quilts to apparel, and everything in between.

How quickly will my order ship?

All of our in house fabrics are printed on demand. Please allow 1-2 business days for order processing before it may ship. If you need other goods urgently you may wish to place your digitally printed order separately.

Can I modify / cancel the digital prints in my order?

Once a digital order has begun processing it cannot be altered or canceled.

How do I purchase samples?

We offer sample strips for all of our in house Print Collections; at this time we do not have sample strips available for Basic Collections. You may also purchase as little as 1/2 yard sample of any fabric in our shop.

questions about our wallpaper

What is Peel & Stick wallpaper?

Our non-toxic wallpaper is printed with latex inks on a woven 100% polyester opaque fabric and backed with a revolutionary adhesive that leaves no sticky residue behind; reposition and reapply ‘til your heart’s content! Whether you’re using for an accent wall, a whole room, or for DIY projects, peel and stick wallpaper offers a quick room refresh for homeowners and renters alike.

How do I put up my wallpaper?

No paste, no water, no mess. Installation is easy with our simple installation guide. This will also be included with your order.

What additional supplies are needed?

You’ll need a plastic smoothing tool, sharp blade, and a step stool or ladder. If you're hanging the Wallpaper on a surface painted with low/no VOC or scrubbable/stain resistant paint, you'll also need 70% isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth to prepare the surface. Having a friend is handy at times, and makes the project more fun!

How should my wallpaper be stored?

Store in a dry place in plastic where it cannot be crushed.

How many applications will the wallpaper allow?

It is repositionable and you can reuse it multiple times, as long as the adhesive is free of dust and debris. If you plan on reusing your Peel & Stick Wallpaper, be sure to save the backing paper.

Can I use my wallpaper in the bathroom?

Yes! Be certain that the surface is dry prior to installation. It’s best if a shower is not used immediately prior.

How should my walls be prepared?

Surfaces should be smooth and free of dust. Prior to application, wipe walls with a gentle cleanser before application. If you're hanging the Wallpaper on a surface painted with low/no VOC or scrubbable/stain resistant paint, you'll need to wipe down the surface at least twice with 70% isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth. Do not wipe in circles, only straight and in one direction. If you need to prime the surface, we recommend Valspar Multi Surface Primer. Wallpaper will not stick to textured surfaces or wood. Do not apply to freshly painted surfaces. Please wait 30 days after painting to apply wallpaper.

What types of paint are compatible with Peel and Stick Wallpaper?

Our Peel and Stick Wallpaper can adhere to almost all paints, but some types of paint are less ideal. If you are priming before installing our Wallpaper, we highly recommend Valspar Multi Surface Primer. If the surface is painted with low/no VOC or scrubbable/stain resistant paint, or you're not sure what paint is on the surface, be sure to properly prep the area as instructed with 70% isopropyl alcohol, and apply a sample before purchasing the full amount for your project.

Can I put wallpaper over wood, cement or brick?

No. Our Peel & Stick wallpaper cannot be installed over extremely porous surfaces.

Can wallpaper be applied over existing wallpaper?

You can certainly apply this wallpaper over existing wallpaper as long as: 1) it is not textured 2) not peeling 3) clean and free of dust. Please note that you might want to examine the wallpaper you have to see if it is overlapped seams or butted seams. It will work best over butted seams.

Why is my Peel and Stick Wallpaper Falling down?

A defective peel and stick wallpaper will not stick, you will not be able to install it. If that happens, please contact us right away. Problems arising days, weeks, or even months after a successful installation are due to poor preparation and/or less than ideal surface conditions.

Textured Surface - Peel and stick wallpaper adheres best to a completely smooth surface and is not recommended for textured surfaces.

Insufficient Prep- Peel and Stick Wallpaper will not adhere well to walls that are dirty or dusty.

Poor installation - Failure to press firmly with a smoothing tool can result in the wallpaper bubbling and/or lifting from the wall.

Newly Painted Walls - While paints dry to the touch within a matter of hours, most paints do not fully cure for up to 30 days. Wait at least 4 weeks for freshly painted walls to fully "outgas" before applying peel and stick wallpaper.

Low/No VOC Paints - Consult with your paint supplier, Peel and Stick Wallpaper will not adhere well to these types of paints. You can try cleaning your walls with 70% isopropyl alcohol and a lint free rag as per our instructions, but we strongly recommend trying a test sample prior to a full installation.

Scrubbable and Stain/Scuff Resistant Paints - These types of paints are formulated specifically to not bond well with foreign elements. Use with Peel and Stick Wallpaper at your own risk, and be sure to try a test sample prior to installation, preparing the wall as instructed.

Poor Temperature Regulation - Avoid installing wallpaper in areas without consistent temperature control, like a 3 season sun porch, outdoor playhouse, or garage.

High Humidity - Moisture within walls can cause wallpaper to lift, especially if the walls are moldy.

Prior to any install, we recommend trying a test sample, particularly if you're unsure of what type of paint is on your walls.

Can wallpaper be cleaned?

Yes. Wipe clean with a soft slightly damp rag. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

How can I order samples?

Wallpaper may be ordered by the foot. You may order a 1 foot sample of any wallpaper.

How do I determine how much wallpaper to order?

To calculate this manually, you will need to measure the width and height of each surface you are covering in feet. Round the height up to the nearest whole number to determine the length of the roll. Divide the width by two and round up to the nearest whole number to ascertain how many rolls you need to order. You can also use this handy wallpaper calculator!

How soon will my order ship?

Wallpaper orders will ship in 1-2 business days.

Will my wallpaper arrive with other items in my order?

Wallpaper will ship separately from other items.

other questions

Can I visit your shop?

While we’d love for the chance to meet our customers, we don’t have a physical brick and mortar shop where we could receive walk-in visitors.

How should I wash my fabric?

The majority of of our selection is 100% cotton, which we all know shrinks! To minimize shrinkage we recommend a cold wash on a gentle cycle with like colors, followed by a low heat tumble dry. Do you offer wholesale accounts?

No not at this time. However, we do have plans to offer this in the future!
